HP LIFE used in Lenoir-Rhyne University Startup Academy

Dr Ralph Griffith, Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship and Director of the Center for Commercial and Social Entrepreneurship at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, North Carolina, recently completed his first semester of Startup Academy. He used HP LIFE as the basis for this class model which brought together students, community members and faculty who desired to improve their own businesses and receive training. They met every other week for 16 weeks to go through HP LIFE modules, network and develop their business skills. Ralph stated, “I came up with the idea for Startup Academy at the NACCE (National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship) 2015 Conference in Houston, Texas. HP LIFE appealed to me because it was self-paced and free. The vital aspect of Startup Academy was relating each HP LIFE module back to each student’s own company to make it personal to them. This upcoming fall (2016), I plan on having a second class of Startup Academy where I plan to decrease the number of meetings since entrepreneurs are busy, but increase the amount of meeting time to two hours.” Ralph also plans to run the first Startup Academy in Spanish this fall for the Hispanic population in Western North Carolina.
